A severe heatwave warning has been issued for parts of Tasmania, with temperatures set to climb into the low 30s this week.
The Bureau of Meteorology warning covers the state’s north-east, east coast and Midlands until Wednesday.
Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-20s to low 30s by Wednesday, with overnight minimums climbing into the mid-to-high teens.
Fingal and St Helens are among the areas likely to experience the hottest conditions.
St Helens is forecast to reach 31 degrees on Wednesday, while Launceston could see consecutive days of 31 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday.

Hobart and the state’s west coast will see milder conditions, with maximums staying in the mid-to-high 20s.
A cooler change is expected from Thursday, accompanied by showers across much of the state.
The bureau said severe heatwaves can pose risks for older people, young children, pregnant women and people with medical conditions.
Residents are advised to seek cool places such as libraries or shopping centres, close windows and blinds early in the day and use fans or air conditioning where available.
The warning is in effect until Wednesday, with conditions expected to ease later in the week.
