A $35.2 million apartment development has been lodged with the Hobart City Council for the former WIN Television studios site in New Town.
The five-storey complex would include 61 apartments on the New Town Road site, made up of 23 residential units and 38 short-stay apartments.
Proposed ground-floor amenities include a cafe, consulting rooms and a wellness centre with a pool, sauna and gym.
Planning documents describe the proposal as “a significant opportunity to provide greater use of a currently underutilised site for residential uses which will complement the surrounding mix of uses and activities”.

Woods Bagot has designed the building in three wings separated by landscaped spaces, featuring a village green, a greenhouse pavilion and rooftop gardens.
The design includes stepped height changes to help reduce the building’s visual impact on the streetscape.

Landscape architect Paul Bangay has been engaged to help soften views of the development from neighbouring properties on Clare and Seymour streets, according to the plans.
The 8,031-square-metre site has been vacant since WIN moved out of its former offices and studios.
The previous building was demolished in 2023 to make way for a private hospital, which was later abandoned due to a reported cost blowout of more than $120 million.
70 car spaces would be provided across basement levels and at ground level.
The application is now open for public comment, with the council to make a decision once the exhibition period closes.
