Work has begun on a $500,000 redevelopment of the popular Punchbowl Reserve playground in Launceston, with new equipment and landscaping set to transform the aging facility.
The City of Launceston project will see the installation of new play equipment, including a flying fox, alongside extensive landscaping work.
The playground’s soft fall surface will also be renewed.
Council expects the work to be finished before July, subject to weather.
The current play area remains closed while construction takes place.

Mayor Matthew Garwood said the redevelopment would ensure the facility could serve a new generation of local families.
“Punchbowl Reserve is one of those places that a lot of Launceston families have great memories of,” he said.
“Alongside the incredible natural setting, the play space has been well used by the community for many years.”
Garwood said the aging equipment had reached the end of its lifespan, creating an opportunity to re-do the area.
“This is a chance for us to refresh it and bring in some new and exciting play elements, including more accessible equipment,” he said.

The project aims to create a safer and more engaging environment for children while maintaining the reserve’s natural character.
“We’re looking forward to seeing the new play space open and being enjoyed by families again later this year,” Garwood said.
