Update – 4am Friday: Two interstate walkers in their 20s have been rescued from a precarious position on The Hazards in Freycinet National Park.
The pair were reported to police around 5pm on Thursday after they found themselves stuck in steep terrain and unable to move forward.
A rescue helicopter was dispatched to the area and dropped off search and rescue specialists, who walked in to assist the walkers.
The walkers, who are from the mainland, were uninjured and successfully guided back to safety around 3:30am.
Earlier: A helicopter search is underway to extract stranded bushwalkers from within Tasmania’s Freycinet National Park.
A Tasmania Police spokesperson told Pulse the bushwalkers first raised the alarm around 5pm on Thursday.
They reportedly found themselves in a difficult elevated position which they were unable to safety return from.
Aerial emergency services were dispatched to the scene to locate the bushwalkers, with authorities confirming the group had not sustained any injuries.
The rescue helicopter has been working throughout the night to reach the bushwalkers, with the aircraft still seen circling the area around midnight.
Police say more information will be released when available.
