The Royal Hobart Hospital Research Foundation is marking the 14th year of its popular easter egg hunt by giving away an impressive 700 kilograms of chocolate at a new venue.
The massive chocolate supply will be distributed throughout the Government House grounds and shared by hundreds of children on April 18.
“I can’t tell you what that looks like in our boardroom but it’s pretty impressive. And it’s very hard, I will say, as a fundraising manager to not eat it,” the foundation’s Erica Larke-Ewing said.
Around 2,000 children and families are expected to participate in the event, with staggered entry times at 10am, 11am and 12pm.

Over its 14-year history, the event has built a dedicated following and typically raises between $25,000 and $30,000 annually for medical research.
This year’s fundraising will support a $500,000 project aimed at helping premature babies breathe.

“We want it to be a sell-out event, we want to raise enough money for the fantastic research that’s happening here in Tasmania,” said Lark-Ewing.
The hunt format involves children and families exploring the grounds to find clues, after which they can claim their prize of Easter eggs.
Organisers plan to return to the Botanical Gardens for the 15th anniversary event in 2026 after renovations to the ground are completed.
With tickets already selling quickly, those interested are encouraged to secure their places through the foundation’s website.
