Tasmania has shivered through a bitter winter morning, with temperatures plunging to -9 degrees in the state’s Central Plateau region.
The Bureau of Meteorology recorded the low at Liawenee at 7:30am on Monday, with the alpine spot bearing the brunt of the overnight chill.
Across the state’s highlands, residents woke to widespread sub-zero conditions.
In the Upper Derwent Valley, Ouse dipped to -5.4 degrees, while Bushy Park dropped to -4.3 degrees just before 8am.
Hobart’s kunanyi/Mt Wellington fell to -4 degrees just after midnight, while the city itself recorded a chilly 2.1 degrees at 7:25am.

Hobart Airport reached a low of 1.9 degrees in the early hours.
Launceston saw a crisp 2.3 degrees at 8:06am, with the airport going just below freezing at -0.1 degrees at 7:45am.
The Central Plateau and Midlands were the coldest spots, with Tunnack hitting -3.7 degrees and several inland towns dropping below -3 degrees before dawn.
Conditions varied out west, with Mount Read recording 1.4 degrees and Strahan managing 1 degree.
The east coast was a little milder, with St Helens reaching 3.8 degrees and Friendly Beaches 1.6 degrees.
