One of Australian football’s most experienced talent scouts has joined Tasmania Football Club, taking on a part-time role as a future talent consultant.
Scott Clayton, a proud Tasmanian with more than 30 years in the AFL system, will help identify up-and-coming players as part of the club’s recruiting and list strategy.
The appointment marks a significant addition to the club’s football operations as it builds towards its AFL debut.
CEO Brendon Gale said Clayton brings a wealth of experience from key roles at the Brisbane Bears, Western Bulldogs, Gold Coast Suns and North Melbourne.

“He understands our football culture, he knows our communities and he has a proven eye for identifying young talent,” Gale said.
“We’re delighted he’s coming home to help lay the foundations of our club’s future.”

Clayton’s time with the Gold Coast Suns gave him valuable insight into building a playing list from scratch, an experience Gale said will be critical as Tasmania prepares to join the national competition.
He also has deep local roots, having played in a Hobart Football Club premiership and represented Tasmania, before a standout playing career with Fitzroy in the VFL.
“I have thought a lot about Tasmania’s entry into the AFL and AFLW for many years,” Clayton said.
“To see this finally becoming a reality and now to be able to be a part of it from the beginning is a dream come true for me.”

“To be a part of the build of a football club from the start is not an opportunity that comes around often.’
Clayton will begin his role with Tasmania Football Club later this month.
