Air conditioning out as power outage hits Hobart CBD on warmest day of the year

Parts of Hobart’s CBD have gone into blackout this afternoon, with a power outage forcing the temporary closure of dozens of shops.

Air-conditioning is also being impacted in businesses across the city, on what is shaping up to be the hottest day of the year.

Temperatures across Hobart are forecast to reach 36 degrees today, with a top of 34.4 degrees recorded minutes ago at 2:20pm.

TasNetworks have crews working to resolve the issue, with power not expected to be restored before 3:30pm.

“There’s a problem with the feeder coming from the North Hobart substation. Crews are investigating and will restore power as quickly as possible,” they said.

“Please stay at least 10 metres clear of fallen lines or other damage and report it to us on 132004.”

The outage, which is affecting businesses on Argyle, Brisbane, Murray and Liverpool Streets, has also forced the closure of the State Library.
