The top boss of Sharp Airlines has issued an apology to Tasmanians who rely on their vital flights that connect King Island with other destinations.

In an open letter, Sharp CEO Alistair Dorward expressed the airline’s understanding that both people and businesses on the island rely on their services daily and “quite rightfully expect” flights to come and go as scheduled.

“In recent weeks, for a number of reasons, our on time performance has at times not met those expectations,” Dorward said.

“For many years now, Sharp Airlines has provided a safe, compliant and reliable service to the residents and travellers to King Island.”

Sharp operates several daily flights connecting the island with Melbourne, Launceston and Wynyard.

These flights are crucial for islanders who need to make hospital visits, family reunions and connect onto other destinations.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused by recent disruptions to our schedule, and assure you that we are doing everything possible to improve our on time performance and that we continue to deliver a dependable and reliable service to the community on King Island.”
