Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will announce almost $30 million in federal funding for various projects across Tasmania during a visit to the state today.
The investment includes $10 million towards essential infrastructure upgrades in the South Brighton Development Precinct and $501,000 for planning, design work and feasibility studies in the Upper Derwent Valley.
South Brighton is planned to house 600 homes and is home to the newly opened Brighton High School.
The upgrades will enable improvements to essential infrastructure, including a new sewerage pump, road improvements and a shared pathway linking the development to the Brighton Industrial Hub.
In the Upper Derwent Valley, the funding will support the communities of Maydena, Plenty, Hayes, Bushy Park, Glenora, Westerway and Mount Field.
Albanese will also announce funding for two significant projects in the north-west during his trip to Devonport, plus a $12.7 million injection in the redevelopment of Launceston’s Princess Theatre and Earl Arts Centre.
The first is Devonport’s Living City project, which will receive a $6 million injection to complete Stage 3.
The funding will build a new road, upgrade public infrastructure and create space for around 30 affordable homes.
It will also allow the development of the Indie School on the old library site.
Circular Head will also receive $619,241 to build a new community health and wellbeing hub in Smithton.
