A quick-thinking neighbour armed with a small fire extinguisher has prevented significant damage to the Rosebery/Toorak football clubrooms after an arson attempt in the early hours of this morning.
The West Coast local was woken by the sound of breaking glass at around 2:45am and immediately went to investigate the disturbance at the Primrose Street facility.
Firefighters rushed to the scene following the call, but arrived to find the blaze already put out thanks to the neighbour’s swift action.
TFS investigators determined today that the fire had been deliberately lit.

Police said evidence suggests an object containing “accelerant” was thrown through the window.
The damage was contained to minor scorching around the entry point and the broken window itself.

Police are now calling for public help to identify a small dark-coloured hatchback seen speeding away from the area immediately after the incident.
“Anyone with information should contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers,” a spokesperson said.
