Detectives are investigating two fires that were deliberately lit in Launceston’s northern suburbs overnight.
Emergency services were first called to Regent Street in Waverley shortly after 11:15pm on Monday following reports a carport was on fire.
Tasmania Fire Service crews quickly brought the blaze under control.
An investigation found the fire was deliberately lit.
Just hours later, police and firefighters were called to a second fire at a property on Iona Court in Ravenswood at about 2:30am on Tuesday.
“Nobody was home at the time of the fire and the property sustained significant damage,” police said.
“An investigation has since determined it was deliberately lit.”
Police said there was no evidence at this stage to suggest the two incidents were linked.
Police are urging anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in either area overnight to come forward.
“Anyone with information about either incident should contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000 or online at crimestopperstas.com.au,” police said.
