A fire that left a mobile speed camera burnt and blackened is being treated as “suspicious” by Tasmania Police.
The road safety device was operating on Boyer Road between Bridgewater and New Norfolk when it went up in flames around 2:20am on Sunday.
The full extent of damage to the machine is currently being assessed, with images showing significant burn marks on one side of the trailer’s exterior.
Authorities say the potential arson created “significant risk of bushfires in the local area” and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
The Bridgewater Criminal Investigation Branch are looking into the incident and have asked for information to be passed onto police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
The mobile speed camera trailers are equipped with half a dozen CCTV cameras that remotely report back to their operator.
