A Hobart candy store is shutting up their Battery Point shop after less than two years in business.

Lollies on Hampden opened in September 2022 on Hampden Road alongside the Gay Flowers florist business.

Taking to social media to announce the closure, the owners said the “extremely difficult decision” was driven by the current economic climate.

“Unfortunately, this is purely a sign of the economic times we find ourselves living in and we are certainly not the only small business to have sadly had to make the terrible decision to close up of late,” they said.

“We have absolutely loved running our little lolly shop and felt so much happiness seeing the joy on your faces as you walked through our doors each time… especially the kids.”

Despite the shopfront closure, the owners say online sales will continue and they haven’t ruled out a comeback.

They plan to take some time off before potentially popping up at local markets or even reopening at a new location.

“We will take little break to catch our breath … But for now as sad as it is we have to say goodbye to our Battery Point location,” they said.

“Thank you so much for all your support because it was you, our wonderful customers and all the chats we have had along the way, that truly made this experience so very special.”

A 50% off closing down sale, both online and in-store, is currently running before the business’ last day in the coming weeks.
