Hobart pet owners are being urged to prepare their animals ahead of the city’s epic New Years firework display tonight, with fireworks set to go off at 9:30 PM and midnight.

Viewing spots for the fireworks include the Taste of Summer, Regatta Grounds, Parliament House Lawns, and Princes Park.

The best part? Parking is free at the Regatta Grounds, and there is plenty of space for families to enjoy the show.

Detective Inspector Rebecca Davis says police encourage people planning on celebrating New Year’s Eve tomorrow night to drink responsibly, look after their mates, and plan a safe way home.

“Proactive patrols will be conducted in entertainment precincts across the state to deter alcohol-related offences and violence”.

In addition, Operation Safe Arrival will see police patrolling the roads to keep them safe from drivers under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

“If you’re planning on drinking to celebrate New Year’s Eve, please remember to drink responsibly, act sensibly, look after your mates, and have a plan to get home safely,” added Inspector Davis.
