The teenager will appear before a youth court at the Hobart Magistrates Court at a later date.

Social media posts from locals suggest the fires were lit near the old Claremont Primary School and playground area.

One resident reported seeing the alleged offender jump a fence at the school after lighting a fire.

Another resident who captured footage said an accelerant appeared to have been used, noting a “big flash” on camera.

One resident wrote a fire came “so close to our house”.

Others voiced frustration at what they said was an ongoing problem.

“It’s getting beyond a joke,” one local wrote.

Police thanked residents who reported the fires and provided information.

“Anyone who witnesses illegal or antisocial behaviours is asked to contact police on 131 444 or Triple Zero (000) in an emergency,” police said.
