The Bob Brown Foundation has staged a protest outside every Hill Street Grocer store in Tasmania today, demanding that they stop selling “toxic farmed salmon”.
The protest comes after the foundation met with Hill Street management, who reportedly told them they would stop selling salmon if customers wanted them to.
Foundation campaigner Alistair Allan said they are protesting the suffering, disease and death involved in salmon production.
“Rotting salmon fat and carcasses washing up on local beaches is a complete affront to the Hill Street Grocer reputation of quality produce and freshness and damages their brand,” he said.

“We have been outside individual Hill Street Grocer stores consistently for the last 5 months and every time we are there, most customers sign our petition asking them to stop selling toxic farmed salmon.”
Minister Eric Abetz has hit back at the “anti-everything” protesters and told them to stop “harassing” hard-working Tasmanians.

“In a bid to stop Hill Street Grocer, a family business, stocking and selling Tasmanian salmon, the protesters are bullying people to not shop locally,” he said.
“This is nothing short of a disgrace.”
“I would encourage every Tasmanian to thumb their nose at the BBF and deliberately buy Tasmanian salmon at your local Hill Street Grocer today.”
Hill Street Grocer is yet to comment on the protest.
