Body of man found after search off Tasmania’s east coast

The body of a man has been located in waters near Triabunna this afternoon following a large-scale search for a missing 79-year-old boatie.

Police say while formal identification has not yet been completed, they believe the body is that of the missing man.

“There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances,” Police said.

“Our thoughts and condolences are with the man’s family and loved ones.”

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

79-year-old man ‘missing at sea’, last seen yesterday on east coast

An elderly man is believed to have gone missing at sea on Tasmania’s East Coast.

Police are currently searching for 79-year-old Peter Deveraux and his dinghy after he was reported missing in the Triabunna area.

Deveraux was last seen yesterday at around 11am boarding his dinghy in the Spring Bay area.

It is understood he was using his dinghy to get to shore from his vessel, which was moored.

Police have since located his car at the Triabunna boat ramp and are now searching the area.

Deveraux is described as 6’1” tall, lean build, brown/grey hair with a ginger/grey short beard.

The dinghy is described as a 10-foot yellow fibreglass catamaran with a small outboard.

Anyone who has seen Mr Deveraux or his dinghy is urged to contact Police.
