Body of missing 63-year-old Rokeby man found in creek after three-day search

A body, believed to be that of missing 63-year-old Rokeby man Greg Pearton, has been found in a creek on Hobart’s eastern shore following a three-day search operation.

Police located the body in a waterway just off Droughty Point Road around 9:30am today, bringing the extensive land, air and sea search to a tragic conclusion.

Inspector Andrew Keane confirmed the discovery, which came after the man was reported missing on Thursday afternoon.

“Our thoughts are with the man’s family and loved ones at this tragic time,” he said.

Authorities have indicated initial investigations show there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

“… However forensic examinations will now take place as is the usual process and a report will be prepared for the coroner,” Keane said.

The search involved significant resources and community support, with local residents providing information that helped police narrow their search area.

Inspector Keane expressed gratitude to those who assisted throughout the operation.

“Every piece of information provided by members of the community was assessed and was followed up as a matter of priority,” he said. 

“We appreciate the assistance of the local community at this very sad time.”
