Former federal MP Bridget Archer has secured a seat in the Tasmanian parliament, just two months after losing her Bass electorate in May’s federal election.
On election night, Archer called her return to politics unexpected but positive.
She said she had not planned on jumping back in so soon after her defeat in the federal election.
“It’s fair to say it’s been a challenging year. But it has also been incredible to be able to have this really strong plan to take forward this united team of people,” Archer said.
The new Liberal MP stressed her commitment to representing the entire community, not just those who voted for her.
“Thank you, of course, to the people who voted for me,” she said.
“But also thank you to the people who might not have voted for me and I give you my undertaking that I will do my very best to represent you whether you have voted for me or not.”
“That has been my promise since the very first time I have was ever elected.”
