Bridgewater residents flee as backyard grass fire spreads to house

A backyard grass fire has spread to a home in Hobart’s northern suburbs this afternoon.

The blaze at a Munnings Place property in Bridgewater forced residents to flee while firefighters worked to bring it under control.

“Firefighters from Bridgewater and Glenorchy arrived to find fire affecting the rear of the property and extending into the house,” a spokesperson said.

“Crews are currently on site working to fully extinguish the fire and ensure it is safe.”

All occupants left the home safely, the spokesperson said.

Paramedics assessed them at the scene as a precaution.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known. The fire service says it will be investigated once the fire is extinguished.
