Key access ramps connecting Hobart’s northern suburbs to the Brooker Highway will close overnight from next week as part of new roadworks.
The northbound off-ramp and on-ramp at Claremont Link Road will be temporarily closed from early November through to late December, forcing drivers to detour via alternative routes.
Works will run overnight from 6:30pm to 6:30am, Sunday nights through to Friday mornings, covering 1.1 kilometres of highway requiring repair and strengthening.
Infrastructure and Transport Minister Kerry Vincent said the wider $100 million Freight Capacity Upgrade Program had already completed 22 of its 38 planned road-strengthening projects.

The upgrade program, jointly funded by the federal and state governments, aims to boost bridge and road strength across Tasmania to improve access for heavy vehicles.
“The program supports a more productive and efficient freight industry by providing freight operators increased safe operating loads, more predictable travel time, optimising road asset life, and reducing maintenance costs,” Vincent said.

Construction begins on November 3, with delays expected throughout the works period. Reduced speed limits and lane closures will apply.
So far, the program has completed eight of 37 bridge-strengthening sites, with four more due by year’s end – including the Don River Bridge near Sheffield and bridges on the Arthur Highway at Taranna.
A further 16 bridge sites are either under construction or have contracts awarded, with 10 expected to start by early 2026.
Next year will see continued works across major routes including the Tasman, Huon, Lyell, Midland and Ridgley highways.
