Bruny Island ferry users are being warned to expect delays on Monday after a mechanical fault left the service running at reduced capacity throughout the weekend.

SeaLink Bruny Island confirmed the MV Bowen broke down on Saturday, forcing the operator to run a single vessel in shuttle mode across the D’Entrecasteaux Channel.

The company said the fault had been identified, but the Bowen would remain out of service for at least two more days.

A third vessel, the MV Parrabah, is being rushed back from scheduled maintenance to help fill the gap.

“We have prioritised getting Parrabah back from its year five survey slipping and will return on Monday afternoon,” SeaLink said.

Until it arrives, the MV Nairana will be the only ferry operating, running on a 40-minute turnaround instead of the usual timetable.

“We understand the frustration and appreciate everyone’s patience over this period,” SeaLink said.

“Please consider your travel for any non-essential travel over this time.”

The normal timetable is expected to resume on Tuesday.
