The man was charged with possessing a firearm to which a licence may not be issued, as well as several minor offences.

He is expected to face the Burnie Magistrates Court on May 12.

In Tasmania, gel blasters that have the appearance of a firearm are classified as prohibited weapons, making them illegal to possess without specific authorisation.

The charges come as authorities continue to crack down on the possession of imitation firearms across the state.

Police have urged anyone with information about illegal firearms, including gel blasters, to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
