A bushfire advice warning has been issued for Cleveland in Tasmania’s Northern Midlands, with motorists facing disruptions due to smoke affecting the Midland Highway.
The Tasmania Fire Service has confirmed a bushfire near Cleveland Lagoon is travelling towards Nile Road, though authorities say there is no immediate threat to properties.
Reduced speed limits are now in effect from Cleveland through to Conara, with police implementing diversions for traffic in both directions.
North-bound motorists from Campbell Town are being asked to use Macquarie Road as a diversion, while south-bound traffic on the Midland Highway from Epping Forest is being redirected via Barton Road onto Valley Field Road.

Emergency services have advised drivers to exercise extreme caution in the affected areas, slow down, and follow instructions from authorities.
The fire service says that well-prepared homes are expected to be defendable in current conditions, but residents are urged to check their bushfire plans and monitor for any changes.

“Conditions are expected to be changeable,” a Tasmania Fire Service spokesperson said. “If your plan is to evacuate, the best option is to stay with family or friends.”
Those sensitive to smoke are being advised to take precautions, with health guidance available from the Department of Health or Asthma Australia.
A smoke alert has also been issued for a fire burning on Burrows Road in North Scottsdale in the north-east.
