Bushfire closes road as warning issued for Wattle Hill near Sorell

A bushfire in the Wattle Hill area has prompted authorities to issue a ‘Watch and Act’ alert for residents of Delmore Road and surrounding areas.

Tasmania Fire Service crews are currently on scene as the fire, which is burning in a northerly and north-westerly direction, is expected to be “difficult to control”.

Police have closed Delmore Road at Forcett from number 378, with embers, smoke and ash likely to fall in the area.

The Tasmania Fire Service is warning residents to take action to protect themselves, their families and their homes.

They are advising those who are not prepared to leave for a safer place, while those living outside the area are being told to stay away.

“If you have made a bushfire plan, check it now,” they said.
