An uncontrolled bushfire at Nugent has been downgraded to a ‘Watch and Act’ warning, with authorities saying residents can return home with caution.
The Tasmania Fire Service downgraded the alert around 7pm on Monday after the blaze threatened homes throughout the afternoon.
Earlier in the day, authorities issued an emergency warning telling residents between Masons Road, Nugent Road and Bezzants Road it was too late to leave.
Residents are now being told there is no immediate danger, but they need to stay alert for any changes.

“Embers, smoke and ash may continue to fall in the area,” the TFS said.
Incident Controller Simon Pilkington said the fire remains uncontrolled.

“This fire is dangerous, with severe winds impacting firefighting operations,” he said.
He said weather conditions are forecast to moderate this evening, with winds expected to ease.
“We are prioritising asset protection and have had crews actively doorknocking in the area to communicate with residents today,” he said.
“While the number of properties in the area is small, the risk is significant.”

“We are hoping the winds subside this evening as forecast, but until then we need people to act appropriately.”
The fire has been visible from commercial aircraft, with images showing large plumes of smoke rising from the area east of Sorell.
Firefighters from the Tasmania Fire Service are on scene, supported by crews from Sustainable Timber Tasmania.
Residents returning home are being warned to watch for signs of the fire re-igniting, such as smoke and flames.

They should also be aware of potential dangers including falling trees and property damage.
The TFS said people should drive with caution and follow directions from any emergency services in the area.
Those who evacuated are being told the best option is to stay with family or friends if they’re not comfortable returning.
Residents need to have a bushfire plan ready in case the situation escalates.
Anyone who notices changes in fire conditions should call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
