Bushwalkers are being warned of potential snow flurries above 1,000 metres this weekend as heatwave conditions across much of the state come to an end.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a weather alert for the Western and Central Plateau forecast districts, advising that snow could fall on Saturday.

The “hazardous conditions” come off the back of multiple thirty-degree days.

Bureau forecaster Matthew Thomas said showers today will ease on Sunday, with the next significant weather change coming from the southwest on Tuesday.

“[That will bring] some more rainfall to Tasmania, around 10-20mm,” he said.

“And as that southwesterly stream eases back on Wednesday, another ridge will move through and then we’re looking at a warmer Friday into Saturday and Sunday.”

Hobart is forecast to reach a maximum of just 15 degrees today and 16 degrees tomorrow, while Launceston and Devonport will hit 18 degrees today and 20 degrees on Sunday.

The West Coast is expected to hover around 15 degrees over the weekend, while the east coast will be slightly warmer at 18 degrees.
