Detectives are investigating a spate of car break-ins across Devonport, with thieves targeting unlocked vehicles parked in residential streets in recent days.

The Devonport Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) says most victims left their cars unsecured, making them easy targets for opportunistic offenders.

Stolen items have included wallets, cash, keys, tools and other valuables left inside vehicles.

Police are urging residents to take basic precautions to avoid becoming victims.

“Leaving your vehicle unlocked is taking a risk and can invite opportunistic offenders to steal from you,” police said.

Investigators say simple steps can significantly reduce the risk of theft.

They’re advising people to lock their vehicles at all times, even when parked at home and remove all valuables overnight.

“Anyone who observes suspicious behaviour in their neighbourhood, particularly during the early morning hours, is encouraged to contact police,” a spokesperson said.

Detectives are appealing for anyone with information about the incidents to come forward.

They are also seeking CCTV or dashcam footage from across the Devonport area that might help identify offenders.
