A caravan has been destroyed after being torn from its tow vehicle and smashing through a guard rail on Tasmania’s east coast.
The driver lost control on the Cygnet River Bridge near Cranbrook about midday on Tuesday, causing the caravan to detach and break apart on impact, police said.
The crash left wreckage scattered across the Tasman Highway. No one was injured.
Tasmania Police used the incident to remind motorists to check their vehicles before towing, especially during peak travel periods.

“Ensure your towing setup is suitable for your vehicle’s towing capacity,” police said.
“Distribute weight evenly inside the caravan or trailer to maintain stability.”
Drivers are also urged to inspect brakes, lights, couplings, safety chains and tyre pressures before setting off and to allow extra stopping distance when towing.
