Farrell won with 4,250 votes (51.5%), narrowly defeating fellow Labor candidate Ben Dudman, who received 4,008 votes (48.5%) at the final count.

Farrell is expected to formally sworn in tomorrow morning and could join the House of Assembly as early as 10am.

Labor leader Dean Winter said he “can’t wait” to have a new member in his caucus.

“I’ve known Casey for over a decade,” Winter said.

“He’s operated his own small business and has been working at Enterprize Tasmania to help get new businesses and ideas off the ground.”

The by-election was triggered by the resignation of Rebecca White, who stepped down to pursue a seat in the federal Parliament.
