A 27-year-old man will appear in a Launceston court today after allegedly leading police on a dramatic pursuit across northern Tasmania in a stolen truck.
The Newnham man was arrested at Ravenswood on Wednesday night, ending an hours-long chase that saw police deploy a helicopter and multiple patrol units to track a white Hino tipper truck across the region.
Police allege the man repeatedly evaded officers during the ordeal, which unfolded over several hours and covered significant ground.
A police helicopter joined ground units in the search as authorities worked to monitor the allegedly stolen vehicle.

The pursuit came to a head on Wednesday evening when police spotted the truck travelling at low speed through Launceston’s suburbs.
As first reported by Pulse, officers arrested the driver on Prossers Forest Road in Ravenswood.

The man has remained in custody since his arrest and will appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court today.
He has been charged with several offences, including four counts of stealing, two counts of motor vehicle theft, two counts of aggravated evade police, dangerous driving and reckless driving.
