Over 400 people will feast on food from four of Tasmania’s most celebrated chefs at the annual ‘Variety of Chefs’ fundraising event tonight.
Raising vital funds for Variety Tasmania and their School Breakfast Club program, the sold-out event will feature a four-course degustation menu paired with award-winning Tasmanian wines and gins.
The successful program feeds breakfast to over 5,000 children in 22 schools across the state each school day.
“We noticed that there has been an increase in engagement attendance, lowering anti-social behaviour during the morning learning session,” Variety Tasmania CEO Mohamed Aldegaum said.
“So we decided to expand that and we very graciously received a lot of support from our corporate community.”
The will fill Wrest Point in Hobart and is Variety’s biggest fundraising mission outside of TasBash.
“It’s a night where the variety extended family come together,” Aldegaum said.
“We celebrate our achievements during the year, we have a little bit of fun, we celebrate the Tasmanian produce and food and skills … and we raise a little bit of extra funds.”
Eight schools are currently sitting on a waiting list for the Breakfast Club, with Aldegaum hopeful the event will assist them in expanding the program.
“We would like to extend that Breakfast Club to other schools,” Aldegaum said.
“So hence [tonight] is extremely important for us to increase that funding.”
The event will include a bread-throwing icebreaker activity led by Chef Paul, Sarah Morrison and John X, live music from the Navy Band and a performance by a Variety support recipient.
Local production company Hype TV will provide live coverage to the audience from the kitchen, interviewing chefs, winemakers and gin distillers throughout the evening.
