A Tasmanian teenager has achieved the title of the state’s fastest woman to run the 100 meters, breaking a long-standing record set by Morgan Sharman.

Chelsea Scolyer, 17, completed the distance in just 11.50 seconds with a legal tailwind of 0.2, beating Sharman’s time by only 0.08 seconds.

“Chels ripped down the track in Canberra last night (Saturday) to convincingly take the win in the U20 event and write her name in the AT record books with a time of 11.50,” her club, the North West Athletics Club, announced on Sunday.

“She now holds every Tasmanian 100m record from U13 up.”

Two weeks ago, Scolyer broke the 100-yard record at Hobart’s Night of Fives, clocking in at an impressive 10.64 seconds.

Her focus moving forward is to continue setting more records as the state’s premier female sprinter and to attend the World Athletics Under 20 Championships in Peru.
