Children’s trail bikes seized after allegedly evading police in Launceston

A 10-year-old child is among those caught by police during an incident in the state’s north this week.

Two trail bikes were seized and five young riders intercepted when officers stopped the riders, aged between 10 and 15, yesterday.

A 15-year-old was arrested and charged, while a second 15-year-old will be proceeded against under the Youth Justice Act.

Both are facing charges of aggravated evade, unlicensed driving, reckless driving and riding an unregistered vehicle.

Their bikes have been impounded for six months.

A 14-year-old will receive a formal caution for riding offences, while a 10-year-old and 11-year-old will be proceeded against for noise and riding offences.

“Anyone with information about illegal trail bike activity should contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online,” a police spokesperson said.
