Snow is falling across Tasmania’s west coast today as a cold front moves across the state.

The Bureau of Meteorology say snow as low as 600 metres is expected during the day, making Cradle Mountain and kunanyi/Mount Wellington look like a winter wonderland.

A cold southwesterly airstream will develop over Tasmania this morning, then ease during Thursday as a high approaches from the west, according to the BOM.

Tasmania Police have closed Belvoir Road at Cradle Mountain due to settling snow and reduced visibility, while fallen tress and further forecast snow are also keeping the kunanyi summit road closed.

Temperatures recorded at 12:30pm included -1.7 on kunanyi/Mount Wellington, -1.1 at Mount Read and 2.9 at Scotts Peak and Liawenee.

The BOM are forecasting showers for the rest of Wednesday with possible small hail and strong and gusty west to northwesterly winds.
