The AFL Premiership Cup and the Tasmanian man who coached its winners to glory will visit the West Coast later this month.
Queenstown-born Brisbane Lions coach Chris Fagan will return to his stomping ground with the prized AFL trophy on November 23.
West Coast Mayor Shane Pitt, who previously wrote to Fagan asking him to bring the cup home, said the act is a “measure of his generousness and sincerity”.
“Last month, I wrote to Chris requesting that he bring the AFL Cup to the West Coast and I am thrilled he has accepted”, Pitt said.
“Chris Fagan is a real role-model for the young people of the West Coast and this year showed what can be achieved with passion, genuine care and guidance for those in his team.”
An event featuring the cup will be held on Queenstown’s famous gravel oval, along with a free kids football clinic and other activities.
“Many West Coasters are doing it tough at the moment with the continued uncertainty over salmon aquaculture in Macquarie Harbour,” Pitt said.
“Chris’s visit will bring some much-needed joy to many people.”
