Updated, Saturday 4pm: Two men are in police custody following a tense standoff with armed police in Clarendon Vale today.
Specialist officers responded to reports of a person allegedly armed with a firearm around 12:30pm.
The incident prompted authorities to lock down several streets in the Hobart suburb for approximately an hour while negotiations took place at a unit on Mockridge Road.
Tasmania Police deployed both uniformed officers and specialist resources to the residential address, closing Mockridge Road between both ends of Saladin Circle.

Nearby residents were told to remain indoors while the situation was brought under control.
Footage showed Tasmania Police’s Special Operations Group vehicle, the Bearcat, on-scene as shots of non-lethal ‘flashbangs’ were fired through the window of the unit.

Police could be heard communicating with the suspects via a megaphone.
The operation concluded safely at approximately 1:20pm when two men, aged 44 and 25 – believed to be known to each other, were taken into custody.
Updated, Saturday 2pm: Road closures in Clarendon Vale have been lifted following a significant police operation that saw multiple streets sealed off and residents urged to stay indoors.
Tasmania Police confirmed the incident, centred around Mockridge Road, was resolved safely with one person taken into custody around 1:30pm.

“Members of the public may have noticed an increased police presence in the area around Mockridge Road earlier today, but are advised the incident there has been resolved,” a police spokesperson said.

Police have not responded to questions surrounding the cause of the incident.
Earlier: Police have sealed off multiple streets in Clarendon Vale as they respond to what they describe as an “isolated incident” in the Hobart suburb.

Officers have closed Mockridge Road between both ends of Saladin Circle and are urging residents to stay indoors while the operation continues.
The nature of the incident has not been disclosed, but police have confirmed there is an increased presence in the area.
“Members of the public and motorists are advised Mockridge Road, between both ends of Saladin Circle, is currently closed,” a police spokesperson said.
“The public is advised to keep clear of that location at this time and stay indoors if possible,” the spokesperson added.
Several connecting roads are also affected by the police operation, including access points at Goodwins at the intersection of Jardinelle Road and Holmfield Avenue.
