UPDATE – 3:42 PM:
A man has lost his life after falling from height while climbing near Weindorfers Tower at Cradle Mountain in the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park.
The incident occurred on Saturday morning when the man, who was one of four climbers, was making his way from the Saddle to Weindorfer Tower.
According to Tasmania Police, search and rescue personnel were able to locate the man’s body shortly after the fall and confirmed that he had passed away.
The identity of the deceased has not been released, but police have stated that a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
EARLIER – Climber falls from height at Cradle Mountain:
A day of adventure turned into a nightmare at Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park when a climber fell from a ‘height’ on Saturday morning.
Emergency services including the Westpac Rescue Helicopter were immediately deployed to the scene, with search and rescue teams now racing against time to locate the fallen climber.
The circumstances surrounding the fall are not yet clear, and authorities have not disclosed any information regarding the extent of the climber’s injuries.
