The latest search for the murder weapon used to kill an Italian tourist on Tasmania’s East Coast in 1995 has come to an end.
Victoria Cafasso died nearly 28 years ago after receiving 17 stab wounds at Freshwater Creek on Beaumaris Beach.
Police say no relevant items were found in the two-day search, which saw divers cover a previously unsearched area in Dianas Basin, as well as land near St Helens.
The search came after new information was received from witnesses following the release of reconstructed images of a vehicle of interest last week.

The 1970s light coloured Subaru Station Wagon was spotted at various locations in the Beaumaris area, including Freshwater Creek, at the time of Cafasso’s murder.
It was driven by a man described as being in his 20s, with blonde hair, about six feet tall, fit, slim build, sun tanned legs and arms with the appearance of a surfer.

Detective Acting Inspector Andrew Hanson encouraged anyone who had knowledge of or links to the vehicle from October 1995 to come forward.
“We never close these cases, and the latest searches showcase our investigators’ commitment to finding answers for Victoria’s family,” he said.
To this day, no one has been charged over her murder.
