At least 30 customers dreaming of a new home have been left in a lurch after the Hobart franchise of G.J. Gardner Homes went into liquidation.
LV Built Pty Ltd closed earlier this month, casting uncertainty over the futures of two dozen Tasmanian families and their dream homes.
In a statement, G.J. Gardner Homes’ mainland headquarters said they would assist in finding alternative local builders to complete the projects.
“We have begun working with the appointed liquidator and are speaking with each customer to better assess the situation and their individual circumstances,” Chief Executive Trent Gardner said.
“G.J. Gardner Homes will use all the means at our disposal to help customers to source alternative local builders to finish the 21 homes under construction and enable a smooth transition.”
Accusations of substandard craftsmanship, severe delays and financial problems had been levelled against the franchisee for over a year before its liquidation was finalised.
A number of contractors are also affected, with some owed substantial amounts of money by the now-liquidated company and reportedly retrieving un-paid materials from some sites.
