A proposed $4.5 million McDonald’s restaurant in Prospect Vale is facing delays after the Meander Valley Council received a number of community concerns about the project.

Between mid-June and the start of July, the council received around 20 representations from locals regarding the fast food chain’s plans for a new restaurant on Westbury Road.

According to the council, their planning team has been working with McDonald’s to consider the community feedback.

McDonald’s has requested an extension to the planning process, which has been granted.

The application is expected to be decided at the next ordinary council meeting on September 10.

The planned restaurant, which would be the fourth in the Launceston area, is located on the site of the former Jim’s Car Care Centre.

The site is currently being remediated due to fuel contamination and the development has been overseen by the Environment Protection Authority.

The proposed restaurant would feature a drive-thru with two lanes, 45 on-site car parking spaces, six bicycle spaces and would operate 24/7.
