A crowdfunding campaign has raised over $6,400 to cover funeral expenses for a Rokeby man found dead after a three-day search on Hobart’s eastern shore.
The body of 63-year-old Greg Pearton, who had battled Parkinson’s disease for 23 years, was discovered in a creek near Droughty Point Road last Sunday morning.
Lily Mourant, sister-in-law to one of Greg’s daughters, created the GoFundMe to ease the financial burden on the grieving family.
“Anyone who knew Greg knows what an absolute legend he was, and would’ve done anything for anyone to the best of his abilities,” Mourant said.

“Greg’s family are going through an incredibly hard time at the moment and don’t need the stress of trying to come up with the money to pay for Greg’s funeral expenses.”
Greg had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s at age 40, with Mourant saying “in the end he did not let it beat him.”

Police confirmed the discovery yesterday ended the extensive land, air and sea search that began after he was reported missing on Thursday.
Inspector Andrew Keane said initial investigations showed no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
“Our thoughts are with the man’s family and loved ones at this tragic time,” Keane said.
“Forensic examinations will now take place as is the usual process and a report will be prepared for the coroner.”

“Every piece of information provided by members of the community was assessed and was followed up as a matter of priority,” Keane said.
