Electronic signboards have gone up on multiple highways across Hobart, but they won’t be displaying live traffic information anytime soon.

According to the Department of State Growth, the rollout of the ‘Overhead Traveller Information Systems’ is still in the testing and electrical phase.

“This is a complex process that takes time,” a spokesperson told Pulse.

They said each sign, which will display different information depending on its location, “needs to be integrated with existing systems” at the central traffic management centre.

“We will update the public once testing is completed and a date has been set for the signs to go live.”

“This is expected to be early next year.”

The signs have slowly gone up on the Brooker, Huon, South Arm and Tasman highways since October.

One was recently installed on the Southern Outlet and two more on both sides of the new Bridgewater Bridge.
