Construction on Burnie’s second Woolworths supermarket is set to begin early next year, with the new store expected to open in 2027.
The shopping centre will be built on the former Motors car yard site along the Bass Highway at South Burnie.
The Burnie City Council approved the development application in June, paving the way for the long-awaited project to move ahead.
In April, Woolworths confirmed it would open during the 2026–27 financial year.

Woolworths said the development would bring significant opportunities to the region, including new jobs and greater convenience for shoppers.
Construction is expected to create around 800 jobs across the build period.

Once open, the store will offer an expanded range of fresh produce, groceries and everyday essentials.
The shopping centre will also include specialty stores and commercial spaces alongside the main supermarket.
More than 180 car parks will be provided, including bays with electric vehicle charging stations.
Shade sails will cover much of the parking area to offer weather protection.
With council approval secured and plans finalised, work is expected to get underway in early 2026.
