Swimming at the western end of Primrose Sands Beach continues to be discouraged due to elevated bacteria levels, according to the Sorell Council.
Regular water sampling has detected several high bacteria readings in the area this summer.
The Sorell Council says recent results have been “much higher than the long-term figures”.
The sample site at the western end of the beach is subject to seepage and stormwater, the council said.
“However, the reason for the high results has not yet been established and is currently under investigation.”
The eastern end of the beach, below the Primrose Sands General Store, remains safe for swimming.
Monitoring will continue throughout the summer swimming season, the council said.
Signage has been placed at the boat ramp entrance to the beach, with additional temporary warnings advising people not to swim in the affected area.
