Crowds of eager Tasmanians lined up before sunrise on Tuesday to secure a coveted Christmas crayfish, with local fisherman Brendon “Squizzy” Taylor selling out his entire stock of 1600 rock lobsters in just hours.

Taylor, star of TV show Aussie Lobster Men, reported customers were already queuing before 6am at Margate Wharf, nearly two hours before sales began.

“The rush is over, no line up now,” Taylor posted by 12:30pm, before announcing he had sold out later in the day.

The popular fisherman had promised more than 1600 lobsters would be available.

Taylor’s Margate sale drew seafood lovers from across the state, eager to secure their Christmas lunch centrepiece straight from the boat.

Direct sales from fishermen have become increasingly popular, with many Tasmanians bypassing retailers to buy straight off the boat.
