Damaging winds of up to 110km/h are forecast to lash Tasmania’s elevated areas from early Friday morning, with the Bureau of Meteorology issuing a severe weather warning.
The warning covers parts of the north-west coast, central north, Central Plateau, Midlands and western forecast districts.
Sheffield, Deloraine and Waratah are among the towns that could be affected.
The bureau said a “vigorous southwesterly airstream” would develop as a frontal system in the Tasman Sea interacted with a large high-pressure system west of the state.
“Strong southwesterly winds averaging 50 to 60km/h with damaging wind gusts up to 110km/h are likely to develop over elevated areas and the lee slopes of the Western Tiers from early Friday morning,” the warning said.

Winds are expected to ease below warning thresholds by early Friday afternoon.
The warning comes as parts of the state continue to contend with wintry conditions on Thursday.
