Tasmania is in for a battering on Saturday, with the Bureau of Meteorology warning damaging winds could gust up to 120km/h across much of the state.
A severe weather warning has been issued for large parts of Tasmania, including Hobart, as a low-pressure system barrels towards the island’s south-west.
The north-east and the Furneaux Islands are expected to be hit first, with damaging winds averaging 55 to 65km/h and gusts of around 100km/h forecast from mid-morning.
Hobart and surrounding areas could see gusts reach 100km/h from late morning, while elevated and exposed locations may cop even stronger conditions, with gusts up to 120km/h possible.

The wild weather is being driven by a vigorous west-to-north-westerly airstream ahead of a thermal trough moving through during the day, which will swing winds around to the south-west.
Devonport, St Helens, Swansea, New Norfolk, Hobart and Oatlands are among the towns in the firing line.
Conditions are expected to ease by early evening, with winds dropping below warning levels as the system moves through.
