A citywide musical meditation is set to transform Hobart into an immersive sound experience this June, in what organisers call a world-first artistic endeavour.

Acclaimed producer Richard Russell, known for his work with Dizzee Rascal, Badly Drawn Boy and Radiohead, will premiere a 30-minute winter solstice composition titled “Every Jewel Reflects Every Other Jewel” across the city.

The piece will be broadcast through the Genasys LRAD public emergency system, typically used for emergencies.

The sound will travel for kilometres throughout the city.

Dark Mofo is the only arts festival in the world to be using such a system like this.

The composition will play on Friday, 6 June from 8 to 8:30pm and again on Saturday, 14 June from 6 to 6:30pm.
